You will be able to try on implants of different sizes to see which look best on you.

Are You a Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

You may need breast augmentation if your breast:

  • Has lost shape and volume due to aging, weight loss, or pregnancy
  • Requires symmetry in terms of shape and/or size
  • Are naturally underdeveloped or small
  • Requires projection, additional volume to maintain a balance of the upper torso in terms of proportion with the hips

Breast Augmentation Consultation

The first step in breast augmentation surgery is to visit our clinic for a consultation. You will spend quality time with Dr. Tran, a board-certified plastic surgeon, who will address all your questions regarding the surgery, the implants, and the post-surgery recovery. During consultation we will assess and discuss:

  • Your expectations from the procedure and desired results
  • Your current medical condition, medications and allergies
  • An examination of the patient’s breasts to determine the best implants for the patient’s body shape to achieve the desired result

For your benefits of understanding, our staff will also compare before and after photos of our former patients so that you can get a clear idea of what kind of results that may be expected from the surgery.

Breast Augmentation Procedure

The breast augmentation surgery generally lasts for about 1.5 hours. The details of surgical planning including implant choice, incision choice, and placement of the implant will be discussed and reviewed with the patient during the pre-operative consultation.

There are two most common types of incisions used by the surgeons for breast augmentation. The type of incision to be used in the procedure is chosen after considering several factors including, the current shape and size of the breast, the shape and size of the breast implant, preference of the patient, the type of implant, and the surgeon’s preference.

Periareolar Incision:

This incision is made on the outer edge or just within the areola, which is the darker skin around the nipple. Once the incision is made following the curve of the areola, a pocket is created through which the implant is slid into the breast.

Inframammary Incision:

This incision is made horizontally underneath the fold of each breast, where the lower part of the breast meets the chest wall.

Breast Implants Types

The breast augmentation surgery is not a one-size-fits-all procedure and needs to be customized in accordance with your requirements, needs, anatomy, and health. The breast implants come in various sizes, profiles, and shapes. During the initial consultation, we will discuss the breast implant choices with the patient to help you achieve the desired results.

Silicone Breast Implants (gel):

Silicone breast implants consist of a solid silicone outer shell filled with cohesive silicone gel. All silicone breast implants are pre-filled with this naturally occurring element and may require a longer incision to insert the implant (than with saline implant). However, the general consensus is that silicone breast implants feel more natural and lighter than its saline counterpart.

Saline Breast Implants (Salt water):

Saline breast implants, on the other hand, consists of an empty shell made of silicone which is filled with sterile saltwater mixture once the implant is placed inside the patient’s breast. The implants are filled with the salt water solution at the time of the surgery. Hence, the implant can be placed inside through a comparatively small incision.

Gummy Bear Implants (Highly cohesive gel):

The Gummy bear breast implant is a new product that is being used for breast augmentation and reconstruction surgeries. These implants consist of a silicone outer shell, similar to the silicone breast implants, pre-filled with highly cohesive (thicker consistency) silicone gel.

Breast Implant Shapes and Sizes

There are two common breast implants shapes: teardrop and round. Dr. Alan Tran will help you determine the best choice of implant shape for you.

Teardrop Shaped Breast Implant:

This breast implant comes in the anatomic shape like a teardrop and consists of a more cohesive silicone gel fill. The outer shell is mostly textured to lessen implant mobility/rotation risk.

Round Shaped Breast Implant:

This implant has a round base and comes in variable projections and base diameters. The fill may be silicone gel or Saline (salt water).
